Créé en 1873, le BIEF ( Bureau International de l'Edition Française) est au service des professionnels du livre. Il facilite l’action des éditeurs pour le développement des exportations, des échanges de droits et des partenariats internationaux. Trois axes articulent ses actions : vitrine de l’édition française lors de salons du livre dans le monde, veille et analyse des marchés nationaux du livre, mise en réseau des acteurs du livre dans le monde à travers des échanges professionnels. Présidé par Alain gründ, le BIEF bénéficie de l’appui des ministères français de la Culture et des Affaires étrangères et de l’Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, et travaille en étroite collaboration avec les organismes professionnels français comme le Syndicat national de l’édition (SNE) ou la Centrale de l’édition. Le BIEF permet aux éditeurs, à Emmanuel Proust éditions en l'occurrence, de présenter leurs ouvrages à la Foire du livre de Frankfort, afin qu'ils puissent trouver des acquéreurs de droits étrangers.
